Andy Pettitte is arguably the best pitcher in Yankee history - how is he not in this list? Zero sense whatsoever

Pettitte is a surprising omission from the Yankees squad - bear in mind that teams with 100+ years of history have tough rosters to crack. His career WAR (as a Yankee) is 51.3, good for third place all-time behind Mariano Rivera and Whitey Ford. But the average of his best three consecutive seasons (1995-1997) gives him a 3.58 ERA, which ranks him well behind the peak numbers of Jack Chesbro (2.44), Babe Ruth (2.49) Whitey Ford (2.67) Allie Reynolds (2.75), Bob Shawkey (2.89), Mel Stottlemyre (2.89), Lefty Gomes (3.07), Ron Guidry (3.13), Mashahiro Tanaka (3.15), Eddie Lopat (3.17), Herb Pennock (3.18), C.C. Sabathia (3.18), Waite Hoyt (3.38) and Red Ruffing (3.42). Based on ERA Pettitte is probably the 41st player on a 40-man Yankees roster. Or he'd have to fight Paul O'Neill for that spot.
