Thanks to everyone who joined in and followed along with the second season of Eternal Baseball! We intentionally stagger our seasons so we aren’t competing with the big events of Major League Baseball, and we are looking forward to this week’s MLB All-Star Game and Home Run Derby.
Season Three of Eternal Baseball will begin shortly after Major League Baseball’s World Series concludes, and we are excited to introduce some new updates to our game:
• We will be using the new 2022 software for DK Sports’ Action! PC Baseball (available at http://www.dksports.com)
• We are adding the designated hitter to the National League – rosters will stay at 26.
• We are adding two wild cards to each league which will go to the non-division-winning teams with the best records. The two division winners with the best records in each league will receive byes through the wild card round, while the two remaining division winners will host the wild card winners for a best-of-three series.
Over the next few weeks we will be erasing the Season Two box scores from the message boards and posting the full Season Two statistics for each team. Please bear in mind that there will be players with outstanding numbers but limited at-bats or innings pitched. The obvious “why didn’t they play more” question is usually answered in three ways:
• The batter hit so well because of a significant platoon split & the numbers would have sank if they had played against both left and right-handed pitchers.
• Because every player’s statistical baseline is altered from 30% up to 30% down every season (randomly, and impossible to view that ratio) sometimes a player with a powerful positive modifier isn’t discovered until later in the season.
• Injuries may have limited the player’s availability during the season.
As always, we are happy to take lineup suggestions from fans, so if you see someone killing it for your favorite team, let us know and we’ll try to get them more playing time. We want every team to be as competitive as possible!
