“THE BIG TRAIN” RAN THROUGH TEXAS IN OPENING DAY WIN FOR THE TWINSWalter “The Big Train” Johnson (1-0) was dominant and Joe Mauer drove in three runs as the Twins downed the Rangers 5-1 on Opening Day. Johnson (9 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K) surrendered only Ivan Rodriguez’s solo homer in his complete game victory. Joe Mauer walked, hit an RBI single, and bashed a two-run homer, while Yu Darvish (0-1) struggled with his control (6 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 4, BB, 6 K) in a losing effort. Rusty Greer left the game after an impressive diving catch in the second inning, but x-rays on his wrist were negative – the club has listed him as day-to-day. Game two is tomorrow night from Globe Life Field, with C.J. Wilson on the mound for Texas, facing Bert Blyleven for Minnesota.
