Eternal Baseball mourns the passing of San Diego Padres legend Nate Colbert. He was a member of the inaugural 1969 Padres squad, and still holds San Diego’s career home run record with 163. Colbert played in three All-Star games as a Padre, and had one of the best single days in baseball history on August 1st, 1972. In a doubleheader in Atlanta against the Braves, Colbert tied an MLB single-day record with five home runs (Stan Musial also hit five in a day) while driving in a record 13 runs and accumulating a record 22 total bases. Colbert shares first base duties with Adrián González in Eternal Baseball, as part of San Diego’s all-time team.
