Eternal Baseball mourns the passing of Oakland A’s star third baseman Sal Bando, who passed away today at age 78 following a long battle with cancer. The Kansas City Athletics drafted Bando out of Arizona State in 1965, during MLB’s very first draft. He played sparingly in Kansas City for two seasons but took over as the franchise moved to Oakland, earning all-Star nods in four of the next six seasons, while being named team captain and leading Oakland to threepeat as World Series Champs in 1972-73-74. Bando played eleven seasons as an Athletic, then five seasons as a Brewer, later becoming Milwaukee’s General Manager. In Eternal Baseball, Bando competes for third base at-bats with Jimmie Foxx, Matt Chapman, Home Run Baker, and Jimmy Dykes.
