Eternal Baseball remembers White Sox left-handed pitcher Gary Peters, who passed away this week at the age of 85. Peters was the A.L. Rookie of the Year in 1963, a two-time All-Star, and led the A.L. in ERA two times. His career marks of 123-105 with a 3.25 ERA are notable, but he was also known as a tremendous hitter – batting .222 lifetime with 19 homers, 31 doubles, and seven triples. His most memorable performance was in the 1967 All-Star Game in Anaheim, where he delivered three no-hit innings and struck out Willie Mays, Roberto Clemente, Orlando Cepeda, and Dick Allen. In Eternal Baseball, he’s one of the White Sox best left-handed starters alongside Billy Pierce, Doc White, Tommy John, Chris Sale, and Wilbur Wood.
