Hernandez should be the starting first baseman, not Pete.

Alonso is definitely benefiting from a small sample size here. We aren't using 2020 stats (unless they're somehow beneficial to the player (which is rare but helped Seattle's MArco Gonzales) so Aloso's incredible 2019 is all we have to work with. Keith's best three-year run in New York was 1984-1986 where he averaged .310, 13 HR, 89 RBI, and an .843 OPS. Alonso's rookie year was .260, 53 HR, 120 RBI, and a .941 OPS. Keith is rated better defensively but there's a pretty big production gap. If Alonso struggles (comparatively) in 2021 it's possible his averaged numbers could sink and Keith could get back into the conversation. For now, Hernandez is the backup first baseman and late inning defensive replacement for the Mets.
